Book Giveaway: Beyond Discipline by Alfie Kohn

Recently, a wrote a post about the Twitter book exchange a few of us started, notably @coursa, @jswiatek, @tektrekker, and myself. Unfortunately, it did not seem to take off as I had hoped.

I always want to help teachers grow. I just bought and am currently reading Beyond Discipline by Alfie Kohn. I will be giving it away and mailing it free of charge at the end of the month. All you have to do to win it is leave a comment anytime in the month of September.

    Jason,

Great idea. I’d love to read the book – it’s the next book by Kohn on my list. I’m sad that it didn’t take off … I’d jump aboard if this gains ground and donate some of my books as well.

  • I would be interested in reading this book. I have read lots of tweets with Alfie Kohn quotes and references to his work, but I haven’t actually read anything by him.

    Rob,
Thanks. If you’re interested in donating some of your books, that is wonderful. If you are on Twitter, we just hashtagged our posts #twitterbookexchange and sent it to the first person to reply to us. Or, if you would rather, I would be happy to facilitate and let you use this space to have drawings like this one.
    Jamie,
I felt the same way. I saw it when I was exploring Barnes and Noble with my daughter. I thought, based on all the tweets and Joe Bower’s recommendation, that he would be worth reading. I’m only in the first chapter, but it’s interesting and seems to validate some of my thoughts on community-building. It speaks to why we do what we do, even when we don’t examine the underlying motives ourselves.

Great idea! Do you limit exchange to teachers in US? (Thinking about shipping charges) I didn’t know you all were doing this, excited to participate in it. We had an exchange like this going on within our school, it was a great way to find out what everyone is reading and save some $$ on professional development books.

The idea was actually Alec Couros’s. I know he sent @MrMacnology, who is in the US, a book from Canada. I also sent one to @davidwees, who is in Canada, from the US. This book is small, so I’m not too worried about shipping. Anyone who leaves a comment in September in eligible.
If you want to do so, I would just tag a post #twitterbookexchange and send the book to the first person to reply. @jswiatek is actually sending me now.
