Find an Unconference Near You

This is the twenty fourth post in the Professional Development 2.0 series. If you have not already, I would encourage you to start with the first twenty three posts:

Wherever you are, there is a good chance that there is an unconference that is going to be held within driving distance. Most unconferences are easy to find because the organizers want as many people as possible to come.

For some of the more established unconferences, they have a central website where new events are listed. Please note, even though the unconferences will share similarities in format, they are hosted, planned, and organized by individual people or teams.

  • http://teachmeet.pbworks.com/ – While TeachMeet conferences are mostly in the UK, there are also events in the US and Australia.
  • http://edcamp.wikispaces.com/ – EdCamps seem to mostly be located in the US at the moment.
  • http://barcamp.org/ – BarCamps happen all over; they are not necessarily education focused, although some may still have information that is beneficial to educators.

Lastly, look to your social network. While they do not seem to be quite as common, there are also unbranded unconferences. These do not have a central network to help locate them, so you have to trust your network to make the worthwhile ones known.
