National Unconference Day

I was speaking with Will Chamberlain on Twitter recently about Edcamp Kansas City. He asked how we can take this great learning experience global.

Now, I can’t say I am much of a music history buff, but during Live Aid, I believe there were concerts in major cities in different time zones all over the global. I really, really like this model. How powerful would it be to have major free, unconferences in cities all over the US, Canada, Central and South America, Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia, New Zealand,and anywhere I’ve forgotten to mention.
They would all be streamed so everyone could share in the learning. The world, which is so critical of what we do, could get a glimpse into the difficulty and complexity of our work, as well as the lengths to which educators go to help people learn.
It may take someone more influential than me to make it happen, but I think it may be an idea worth pursuing.

    What a great idea! Maybe we just need to pick a date and throw out the idea to the Twitterverse–perhaps in a month when we’re less swamped than normal (like March or in the summer). Let’s keep kicking this idea around.
