National Unconference Day

I was speaking with Will Chamberlain on Twitter recently about Edcamp Kansas City. He asked how we can take this great learning experience global.

@jasontbedell that would be awesome, how do we take this to the next level and do #edcampnorthamerica? #edcampkcless than a minute ago via TweetDeck

I responded:

@wmchamberlain Don’t know yet but it would be awesome. Maybe same day conferences all over, like Live Aid.less than a minute ago via Twitter for BlackBerry®

Now, I can’t say I am much of a music history buff, but during Live Aid, I believe there were concerts in major cities in different time zones all over the global. I really, really like this model. How powerful would it be to have major free, unconferences in cities all over the US, Canada, Central and South America, Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia, New Zealand, and anywhere I’ve forgotten to mention.
They would all be streamed so everyone could share in the learning. The world, which is so critical of what we do, could get a glimpse into the difficulty and complexity of our work, as well as the lengths to which educators go to help people learn.
It may take someone more influential than me to make it happen, but I think it may be an idea worth pursuing.
What do you think?
